All of the addressees are working-on or contemplating computer based
directories of DNSO, of DISA as a DNSO responsibility, or of DoD as a DISA
responsibility. In reviewing the efforts of the addressees, much
redundancy of effort and commonality of purpose is visible. I would
estimate that 80% of the DNSO specific work being done by each of us is
redundant, as far as creating and subsequently maintaining these various
functional directories. The apparent causative factor in each of us trying
to create our own directories is that we have no single reliable directory
which we can draw on to build our functional applications.
I propose we meet to review our individual requirements and efforts, for
the purpose of finding a method by which we may pool our efforts and work
from a common DISA/DNSO basic directory. This would save all of us time,
and would also give each of us more consistent and valid data for our
functional work.
If we can come to agreement in this meeting to approach this in a concerted
and integrated manner, then I recommend we submit a proposal to the DNSO
Quality Council and/or its DISA counterpart. As an example, the proposal
would recommend that a single standardized process and structure for
creating, maintaining and using this Basic Directory for DISA/DNSO be
established.
