Hi FedWorld;
I'm building a operational prototype of an enterprise directory for my organization. It will contain a Catalog of objects of interest to the enterprise, and a Cross Index of the relationships between them.
We'll use this as an online query system to find the stakeholders/workers on various decisions and programs/projects. We'll also expand this Directory to include a system to display the distribution and composition of these managed objects, both within and external to the organization. Another initial use will to allow us to build a user profile of all of our enterprise members/contractors/suppiers so that the directory informs them when objects of position or personal interest are being worked.
Eventually we'll use it to manage the life cycle of customer requirements and to map/simulate the workflow within the organization and across the organization's borders into the economy at large. We want to be able do display this information in both geographic and CAD type formats, as well as the standard tables and reports of the underlying relational database.
The objects of interest to my organization are divided into seven
categories or "Object Classes". The object classes are:
location,
organization,
work unit,
function (what work is done),
activity (how work is done),
resources (i.e., input/control/output/mechanism) as products (goods/services), and
requirements.
I'm looking for public sources of data, such as the Census Bureau's Tiger database, a list of world/national/state/county/city government/intergovernment agencies, a list of private sector international and national firms and non-profits, and classification/categories of industries and jobs such as in the Dept. of Labor standard industry codes (SIC) and standard occupational codes (SOC). Ideally they would have a hierarchical structure similar to the object classes. I'd pare out the data that is not relevant to our organization. I'd be happy to take partial lists. I'd prefer that this data comes from a source that has some responsibility for the accuracty of this data within their own organization.
The object class structures (displayed here in the report format used to display the requirement for a specific category of resource) are:

If you know of sources of data that I could use for any of these object classes (excluding .07. Requirement), either in ASCII, spreadsheet, database, or word processing formats, I'd appreciate your message to me here.
Since this will be a fairly simple relational database application, with some sophisticated graphical front ends and querie capabilities, there appears to be a couple of useful software packages/environments that will enable us to implement in the near term. The big cost for us in acquiring useful data.
Our members will build their profiles and requirements by selecting their positions/functions/activities from the Catalog as base objects, and then pick functions/activities/resources from the Catalog as associated objects, and then fill in relevant Requirement attribute values. The more complete the choice of objects we give them, the more refined our life cycle management of requirements and the stakeholder/worker informing and coordinating can be.
Thanks.
